Foam Cushion Replacement

Bring your old foam cushions to our restoration shop and our expert will replace the foam, giving new life to your furniture. This can be done for all loose furniture cushions.

To do these cushion replacements, we use high-density, top-quality foam. The foam is then hand wrapped with dacron to improve it's comfort and appearance.


Custom Upholstery OLD and NEW

Most "newer" furniture purchased today, is not worth redoing, unless it was purchased from a more repudiable furniture store. Even then, much of it is so poorly made, it just isn't worth the expense. The majority of upholsterers in the area, do these type of pieces.

The Upholstery Shop rarely does newer furniture.This newer furniture is mostly recovered not upholstered.  On new furniture fabric is placed directly over the old fabric, with no attention being paid to the furniture's "internals". Mr. Cundiff specializes in the older furniture, where he does mostly "bare-framing" and complete rebuilding of these "internals"; the paddings, supports, springwork and regluing the frame. Occasionally, a better built piece of furniture is brought in, and these are worth doing.

Mr Cundiff will be very frank with you as to whether the piece is "worth" doing over. He loses many jobs by being candid, but the truth is, the furniture manufacturers are turning out today, is designed for the trash-pile in 2-5 years. Please feel confident in bringing your furniture in. Our craftsman will be truthful and forthright with you in discussing the merits of doing it over.

Fabrics

The Upholstery Shop deals with many fabric companies. Robert Allen Fabrics, Kravit Fabrics, United Fabrics, LeJoffa and Beacon Hill. There are times Mr. Cundiff will work with your own fabric, but this is not recommended. Please remember, not all fabrics will work on every piece of furniture. Even if it says upholstery grade on the label, it may not work on your piece. In the old days, most of the upholstery grade fabric was "treated", this is not the case today. Let our expert help you in your fabric selections for color, design and teflon treatment.

Upholstery Services Offered

Feel free to bring in one of your Diningroom  or Kitchen chairs for new seats and/or backs. Bar stools, footstools, vanity benches, hassocks, and headboards are all done at The Upholstery Shop. Not only does Mr Cundiff upholster chairs, loveseats and sofas, he also makes custom Throw Pillows in various sizes and trims.

When I am consigned to rebuild an

upholstered piece of furniture, it normally is bare-framed. Bare-framing means to strip off all the old dry rotted, deteriorated supports, paddings and fabrics from the wooden frame (mainly pieces pre 70's). Once this is done, the frame can easily be re-glued and blocked to make it structurally sound. Your wood is then refinished, refreshed, or cleaned as to your preference. Once the frame is finished, it is ready for supports, springs, paddings, and finally fabric. I do things the "old- way", and 8-way tied springs and hand-stitched paddings are frequently done in my shop. The majority of my customers will choose fabrics from our many sample books; companies like Robert Allen Fabrics, United Fabrics, and Kravit Fabrics. I will also be there to guide you to a fabric which will serve your family in serviceability, beauty, and era appropriateness. My shop specializes on older furniture, antiques, modern/custom furniture, kitchen/dining room chair seats, foam cushion replacements and throw pillows.
