Furniture Restoration in Barnsboro, South Jersey

Revitalize your favorite furniture with new fabrics and finishes, at THE UPHOLSTERY SHOP, in Barnsboro, New Jersey. Our owner has owned and operated THE UPHOLSTERY SHOP for over 40 years, and has also owned an antique shop called Sleepy Hollow Antiques for over 18 years.

Our owner's combined knowledge of upholstery, refinishing and antiques will assure you of quality workmanship on all of your furniture, whether old or new. It takes time to craft any piece of furniture, something you don't get with today's production-line furniture, or most commercial upholstery shops.

Our craftsman will give your furniture the time it requires. He takes no short-cuts, and rebuilds your piece as good as, and more often better than it was originally built. One could say Mr. Cundiff is "old-school", and does things the way craftsmen of yesteryear worked.

He will give you a portion of his heart in every piece of furniture he crafts. As we talked to him, we were touched by what he said, everytime I rebuild a piece of furniture, it becomes one of my children. Rest assured, you will get the best of workmanship, materials and service from this artist.

A Little History

In 1972, Mr. Cundiff started his upholstery business in Pitman, New Jersey and called it The Nip and Tuck Shop. He is a self-tought craftsman, learning his trade the "hard-way", by trial and error. "I put in a lot of hours back then, working, sleeping and working some more, 15-18 hours each day, 7 days a week, working holidays, working all-nighters, working, working, working, just to stay in business. I had no choice, it was work hard or fail". As the years went by, he started to specialize in older furniture and antique restoration, and eventually opened a second shop called Sleepy Hollow Antiques. His wife MaryLynn ran this shop in Barnsboro, New Jersey and then they moved it to Mullica Hill, New Jersey for 18 years in total. Mr. Cundiff closed the antique shop down around 12 years ago to be able to devote all his effort to upholstery and refinishing furniture. After closing the antique shop, he decided to rename his business THE UPHOLSTERY SHOP, to keep it simple and direct. He has been at his Barnsboro location, which is also his home, for over 28 years.

Peace of Mind

ALL work is done by Mr. Cundiff, ALL work is done in his shop ... don't be fooled, many craftsmen don't do all their own work. Other shops will "farm" out your job to production shops, where your piece of furniture becomes a number. All quality is lost, the original craftsman "skims" the profit and you the customer get an inferior production-line job at a higher custom price.

Mr Cundiff will always be there to make professional suggestions on fabric colors, age appropriate fabrics for your antiques, fancy nailheads, trims, wood colors, or possible alterations to make the furniture more serviceable or visually pleasing. If your furniture is an older wooden piece, he will always discuss whether it is more advisable to leave the "original surface" intact, recoat or refinish. Options are available for you. Mr. Cundiff believes in communicating and helping you to understand and visualize your finished heirloom, whether it's old, whether it's new. We know you'll be pleased with his honest, professional and personal service.

Customers,
My name is Ken Cundiff and I am the founder and owner of the UPHOLSTERY SHOP in Barnsboro, New Jersey. I have been upholstering, refinishing and repairing furniture for over 40 years. I started this business back in 1972, and during that time I also ran a small antique shop for 18 years called Sleepy Hollow Antiques. My knowledge of antiques, older furniture, upholstery, refinishing, cabinetry, and wood restoration all blend harmoniously, as I personally craft your families furniture. I am dedicated to detail and clean workmanship and will rebuild your furniture as good as, or better than it was when first purchased. I treat this profession as an "art form" and my success can be measured by the continual repeat business and referrals which have kept me going for all these years. I must satisfy my customers, as recommendations are the primary way that I have always obtained new business. All work is done by myself here in Barnsboro. I do not farm out my work as many as other shops do, I do it all. I will be open and honest with you, and will discuss the pros and cons of restoring your piece of furniture. Many pieces of furniture are just not worth doing, and I will honestly tell you if this is the case. I am not afraid of spending time with you; to educate you, discuss colors, fabrics, all alternatives. Please stop by and see what I have to offer. Your furniture will be restored as if it were going into my own home.
